Please Just Give Me The Answer!

So… hiya all sorry its been a while again, my life seems to be morphing into one thing after another recently.

Today I am going to be talking about how hard it is to get into the Author game and how its seems you write and write but yet then, once you submit your work to either literary Agents or Publisher, it feels as if you are sat forever waiting for the answer of no, to arrive by that gloomy email saying “Thanks but no thanks.

And Guys, to be honest that is about all it does say most of the time.

I think that is the hardest thing about trying to write for a living the knock backs, you have to have a thick skin, if only Agents and Publishers would give feedback on why it hasn’t hit the mark this time.

It leaves you asking yourself:

  1. Is it not current enough?
  2. Does it lack detail?
  3. Is it too long/short
  4. Does it not flow like it should?

It leaves you feeling like you have been told no then the door is just shut in your face again! You feel you can never make the corrections you need to, to succeed.

My goodness, ouch! its hard to swallow, however like I said you just pick yourself up dust yourself off and submit again, its the waiting that makes it the hardest thing for me, as you just want to move on and submit somewhere else.

If I had just five minutes for a chat with that person, they probably would and could tell me everything that is rubbish and what to do to make it right. However, you never get that opportunity.

Once I received an email, which nicely said..

Dear Emma

We absolutely love your book, with your cute characters and fabulous moral of the story endings. A Fantastic read, for any child, however we can’t take forward your submission right now as we have filled our picture book section for this year sadly.

However as we loved it so much we would love to receive, the same submission again on our next Children’s Submissions Date.

Kind Regards

*******************

However so that email took six months to get to me after submission, as they take Unsolicited Manuscripts and majority don’t anymore so as you can imagine they receive thousands .

After re-submitting as requested and waiting a further six months .

I received this email.

Thanks for your Children’s Book Submission to **********.

Sorry it hasn’t been successful this time.

Kind Regards

****************

Wow … Talk about gutted! it didn’t even have my name on it. Take into consideration at this point that is a full 12 months on wards from that first hopeful submission and at six months how much they loved it and requested I resubmit.

So welcome to the hard world of writing for a living, however it doesn’t deter me I just write more and more books, I am building a phenomenal collection. I am determined to be the next J.K.Rowling, so now I hear you laughing at this point saying:

“OK Emma, that’s an unreachable goal”

However is it an unreachable goal really? Am I kidding myself? Do you know what at this point in time, I do not know what the future has in store!

All I know is that I am determined, J.K.Rowling also to was rejected many times as where many famous authors. I know I ask myself how on earth could the publishers not see the magic, ( See what I did there LOL) in the Harry Potter Books and if that is the case there is definitely hope for us all!

Thanks for reading,

Until the Next Blog

Fat People Do Shop As well!

So hey all, today’s blog post is based on a conversation and situation, I had with my step daughter Beth who is Blogger from Practically Pint Sized  most of you probably know her, now Beth like me tends to not pull any punches, we were wandering around Primark and it seemed everywhere we turned a girl was staring at Beth whilst she was shopping!

If I am honest I didn’t notice at first as the older you get, you tend not to pay attention to the female of the species, typical evil looks …. (All I see and hear in my head when I say that is Mat Lucas dressed in a track suit saying “Don’t you be giving me evillllssssss”) LOL anyway I digress..

Beth suddenly came out with the sentence, saying it straight to the girl,

“Yes that’s right, Fat people do shop aswell” the girl pretty much ran off in the opposite direction realising that she had been caught staring at Beth in a disrespectful way .

I looked at Beth and laughed, she is funny. She says it, how she sees it most of the time!

However after coming away from that situation it’s started to bother me slightly, Why is it that other girls who are so body conscious themselves, stare at others to judge and ridicule them? Should people who are slightly over weight not go clothes shopping? or oooh another massive example…

when seeing an overweight person in say Mcdonalds, you can see people saying to one another:

“I wonder if they have left any food for us?” laughing

( And yes sadly I have heard that bollocks before much to my dissapointment)

Dont we all have things on our bodies that we don’t like? I know I do! in fact I could write a list about the things on my body that I dont like, and probably if I had the money would get some kind of cosmetic surgery to “fix” it even if others couldn’t see what I could.

Its strange isn’t it how much we judge ourselves, hate ourselves and wish we had something that we don’t. But the funny thing is, I want everyone to remember that we ALL however we look, have something we would love to change about ourselves.

Now I am not sure if this comes from the media, I think perhaps it does to a certain extent of course .. but with this example in mind I beleve.. it also comes from each other !!!

Just like this girl judging Beth for being a slightly larger frame, whilst she herself was not! We can’t blame the media if we are happy to judge each other by the same standards the media does, I am wrong?  Let’s face it, by acting in such a way, is what allows the media to win this war of what looks ok and what doesn’t. what is acceptable! and what isn’t! And that a girl or boy has to look a certain way, in this society to be accepted. Or be part of the “Populars” as my son calls them.

Now ok we all like what we like and that’s ok, but do we have the right to push our ideals onto to someone else!  NO I don’t think so ..

So with that in mind, maybe we should stop judging and start living in this world being accepting of everyone!

The next time you see someone that doesnt fit your ideals, who cares and who are you to judge? Equality is key, everyone deserves to be loved regardless of their size, colour, sexuality, gender. I could go on but I am sure you get the jist.

So on that note….

Until the next blog post ,

********* THESE ARE MY OPINIONS & MY OPINIONS ONLY – WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT SO IF YOU DONT AGREE THATS OK *************

Your Opinion is Wrong !

So … Hey all, I hope you are well 🙂 I start today’s blog post with a controversial title…

Many of us would be shocked if we were told categorically that our opinion was wrong and that we should shut our mouths etc …

I am surprised that people feel they have the right to make that bold statement, because regardless if we agree with someone or not, or if we have strong views on a certain topic or not do we have the right to curse, shout and ridicule someone for having different opinion to ourselves …. I don’t think so !

How A Creative Person Can Make Your Business!

So hey all sorry it’s been a few weeks again since I last posted, the summer holidays are killing me..

However back for todays blog about How and Creative Person Can Make Your Business a success.. Now I know you’re all probably rolling your eyes and saying..

“God this girl, has got a serious love for all those who are creative” to be honest you are all probably right, I myself as you probably are aware by now, am also a creative person, this is how I can say that a creative person can make your business a success and this why ..

Running your business is great if you’re a sensible type, if you have your head screwed on plus are great with the number/stats side of the business, this is definitely a really important trait to have to keep your business afloat. However having someones creative input can take you to another level in your industry.

I personally feel you need two types of people in a business..

  1. The Level Head ( Mainly the Academic Type of Person)
  2. The Dreamer ( The Creative, Eccentric Type)

The amount of successful businesses, who I know that run this way is unbelievable. The one that pushes forward bringing new exciting things into the business but always running alongside the person that pulls their head out of the clouds when its going to far.

If I was to ask you two questions, if you can answer them with a yes, then you know your answer…

  1. Are you frustrated that you are running out of ideas to take your business to the next level?
  2. Has your business ground to an uninspiring halt, where thinking out the box would be beneficial ?

Answer … Yes & Yes…??

Ok…. So we come back to the title of my blog, I promise you if you are missing something in your business and can’t decide what it is, then employ and eccentric, creative type and your business will be made into the type of business you have always dreamed of.

When the two worlds collide The Academic and The Creative it can create beautiful things…  working together can be fantastic and I assure you will be surprised at what you can achieve.

Please give it a try and let me know how you get on …

Until the next blog, go and create business harmony.

What Inspires Me…

So… Lately I have been asked by my readers..

“What inspires me to write my blogs ?”

“Why I have become the type of Blogger I have?”

Emma Durrant - Durrant's Divulging Lifestyle Blogger

In my thinking pose…..LOL

Pause for thought ... The answer to that question is quite simple I suppose, that I have naturally fallen  into this! I don’t always write on subject matters that some bloggers in this genre write about, sometimes wander off into my own little version of a Lifestyle Blogger but I kind of feel that’s ok! Often I will say to new bloggers-

“Be Your Own Person”

Are you Materialistic?- I think that’s a Yes!

So …. Have you ever realised how in our life, the material things we own becomes a Must rather than a Privilege and something you can’t live without ?

I  in conversations in the past about money, forever heard myself saying …

“I am certainly NOT Materialistic – I  have never been or never would be! If I won the lottery ( Millions of Pounds) I would still shop in cheap places, getting value for money
